What a week !

In a good way. I went bridal shopping with Stef and the girls on Saturday and believe it or not the girl has a wedding dress already . Fourteen months before the wedding and only one day of shopping and trying on dresses ! The bridesmaids are all set and ready to go as well ; now it's just the flower girl's dress to choose and buy . Emma is just 3 1/2 years old so it really should wait till next year , a bit closer to the wedding date.

I had such a blast going out with these girls .The group included Stef's mom and step mom , her stepsister and all the bridesmaids and maid of honour . Talk about dress shopping by committee . She ended up buying the first dress she tried on . The saleslady knew what she was doing when she chose dresses for her to try on , she was so helpful . Stef looked absolutely gorgeous ! I have some pics of her with the dress on after it was bought , but won't post them . I don't want to let the cat out of the bag . Max will be blown off his feet when he sees her walking down the aisle . I'm touched that Stef included me in all the fun , she's such a sweetie .

The other exciting news for us is that the long search for a new car is finally over . It's actually a "pre-owned "car , but new to us . We've been looking for an affordable and decent second hand car to replace our ancient (1994 ) Jeep Cherokee that we used to pull our trailer and was Mike's vehicle for his fishing trips . Our main car is a much smaller , more fuel efficient car that 's adequate for all our everyday needs , it just can't pull the trailer . We ended up with another Jeep , a 2006 Liberty with hardly any mileage on it . While it's not the most fuel efficient car the upside or rationalisation for us is it will not be used everyday , only for our camping and Mike's fishing trips . In some ways this purchase presents us with an ethical dilemma ,vis-a -vis living our lives to leave a smaller carbon footprint . On the surface it doesn't look good , but we are very conscious of what we do and how it affects the planet . Mike works locally and bikes to work a good part of the year . We've made other significant changes in our lifestyle , but really love our camping trips which are our main vacations each year . Can you tell this is making me feel very guilty ...

I cast on my socks for the SOS 08 on Monday . These are the Donyale or my double /double socks as I like to call them in a cafe-au-lait colourway . Below are the Baby Backward Rib sock which don't officially count for the SOS . Another long week-end coming up for us this week and I plan on just relaxing and knitting . We'll see how that works out - the best laid plans , as they say ....

Pretty Picture

...to distract you from the lack of knitting content .This beauty was having a drink on the Mock Orange bush that is right near my clothesline . I noticed him/her flutter by and settle down as I was taking in my laundry . This was my stop and smell the roses moment , so to speak .
We've had a busy time here lately with planning home renovations , car purchases , Father's Day , shopping for grand baby -to-be , helping paint a friends' new home and the usual dog-sitting . I think I'll go back to work to get a break and a pay cheque to cover all the renovation costs and the car purchase . That is my pity party moment .
I'm still working on the Baby Backward Ribs socks . I'd hoped to have them done so that I could actually start on the Summer of Socks Knit -along this weekend . I have a bunch of socks in my Ravelry queue , I just have to decide on which one to start . So many choices and so little time ...

Happy Feet

I've got a gazillion things I should be doing today instead of blogging but I wanted to finally show some socks off the needles . There's been quite a dry spell hereabouts with the sock knitting . A completed pair is surely an event worth noting . Not only that , there's another pair in the works , let the bells ring and the birds sing !

Despite the splitiness of the yarn while I was knitting them , I'm very happy how the they turned out. They feel wonderful on the feet. This is such a great pattern - Cross Hatch Lace by Charlene Schurch from" More Sensational Socks " .

Alaska was over on the week-end with Max and Stef . They were in the pool trying to stay cool . He found his own way of staying cool . He's such a character !
Anyways , off to mow the grass...

With a little help from my friends

The walk for cancer was held in our town last Friday night. Despite the terrible weather we'd had all week , there was nary a drop of rain that night . Even the mosquitos left us alone until just after sunrise . Amazing !

There was a very good turnout and at the end of the night $188,000 was raised for the Canadian Cancer Society . I can't believe that I was able to stay up and walk for 8 of the 12 hours that we were there . Must be the Tim's coffee that did it . Thanks to the husbands who kept us supplied , couldn't have done it without you guys !

This was my first time doing this but it certainly won't be my last .

As for the yarn giveaway , I'll be sending yarn out to Sherri and Monika . I'm so happy and grateful for the support that I received and can't thank everyone enough ...

Relay for Life

Tonight is our Relay for Life walk for the Canadian Cancer Society. As per usual this spring /early summer the weather here is abysmal . Rain , rain and more rain . Of course tomorrows forecast is sunny and warm . The weather won't dampen my spirits though . After it's all said and done I was able to achieve and today surpass my fundraising goal of $500 . As of today my personal total stands at $575 , this includes online and real life donations . The team total is nearing $ 3600 . A great big thank you to all the wonderful people who donated to this event in memory of and and in honour of those who are battling this terrible disease in their lives today. I'll certainly be thinking of all of you as we walk tonight in the hope for a cure someday soon . Thank you again from the bottom of my heart .

BTW , you can still donate , by clicking on the Cancer Society logo at the top right hand side of this page . My personal page is still up . The prizes mentioned in a previous post (here and here ) are still up for grabs . I'll have the draw this week-end after I've recovered from the walk . Have a good week-end !
